On 5 April 2024, the Renewable Energy (RE) Class licence came into effect in Victoria. Licensed electrical inspectors (LEIs) must now hold this new licence to inspect battery systems and electricity generation systems powered by renewable energy sources or internal combustion engines. So far, around 200 LEIs have applied for and received the RE Class licence. If you haven't yet applied, the following information will guide you through the process.
Eligibility: G Class licence holders are eligible to apply for either a full RE Class licence or a conditional one. Details about the types of RE Class licences and what they allow you to inspect are available on the ESV website, along with a comprehensive Q&A section.
How to apply: It's free to apply for either a full or conditional RE Class licence. Applications must be submitted via ESVConnect.
Log into your licence profile and click on the ‘Add Class’ button.
You’ll need to demonstrate your existing skills and knowledge; if you can't, you'll need to complete an assessment at Future Energy Skills.
Processing time: ESV aims to process applications within 10 business days, though this may increase during high-demand periods. Only complete applications will be considered, so ensure all requested information and evidence are provided to avoid delays. Visit the
ESV website for further details and assistance.
