Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV) has announced a staged approach to non-compliance with the Building Equality Policy (BEP), extending the transitional compliance period by six months. The BEP was implemented in 2022 and 2023 which aims to foster inclusive workplace cultures.
IRV, after extensive consultations with stakeholders such as NECA, is set to introduce a comprehensive framework to manage non-compliance effectively.
Effective July 1, 2024, contractors who fail to meet BEP obligations must promptly inform contract managers. A collaborative approach will be taken to establish suitable alternative obligations to ensure compliance. Outstanding contractors will be acknowledged on a high-performing register, while non-compliance will result in enhanced supervision and formal warnings. Additionally, non-substantive revisions align the BEP with current gender equality strategies and procurement terminology.
IRV is wrapping up consultations and NECA will ensure members are kept informed with updates. If you have any questions about BEP, write to us at [email protected].
